The new season kicked of at our traditional venue of Heyrose. In dry weather and still winds – the real issue was the rough – which was thick and wet – leading to lost balls (and found ones!) a plenty
Results:
Ade & Paul K beat Graham and Chris F by 2 holes. In a better ball matchplay compettion
Yet another year done in SMXIXHGS and another Ryder Cup managed. Again we played Marconi vs The Rest of the World.
Carden Park Cheshire course was the location again. It all came down to the final match with the Moss brothers drawn against each other, with the game finishing in the dark and Eric holing a 7ft putt for birdie to win the last and get a half for the ROW.

The latest standings for the Ryder Cup as a whole are below. Crooky still has the best average overall……. The Tommy Fleetwood of the society…..
A new course for the society. Played on a quiet sunny afternoon. The course is short but with some interesting holes and tight fairways.
John Shearn played the best with a truly massive drive on the back 9. Some considerable amount of sand on the greens with “ripples” made short putting challenging!
After some really close games, Marconi squeezed through on the last putt of the last match on the last green to win 3-2. That’s 5 in a row for Marconi, with the relatively new signings for ROW having mixed fortunes with Colin winning and Tom losing. How long can the ageing Marconi team keep up such good golf ??
The build up has started and The president split the 5 players in to Ryder Cup groups. Jason talked his team around and helped John and Ade feel better about themselves and their gold in general. SMXIXHGS members will know he had a lot of work to do. Graham and Paul started well and then fell apart whilst talking about collaboration, team work and a team that would not have a leader. Whilst they sang the Red Flag, I checked what this kind of society is called, and the dictionary says “Anarchy”. Marconi team will continue to follow the Dictatorship model. In the end, the medal results today at Portal Championship were;
John Shearn 71 nett Jason Moss 77 Graham Copsey 78 Paul Kelsey 81 Adrian Levin 82
With very windy conditions a great day was had in the hilly fairways (and trees) of a course the society has not visited for over a quarter of a century.
Pete Sherlock won the day and completed his grand slam for the year.
