Requests for a stewards enquiry were rejected and the course played easy, and allowed those with a good few holes under their belt to play the best golf. Ade had a 63, and his handicap will be sneaking in the right direction….. See here for the full results. And here for the RC table and here for the handicaps.
In a new bonus feature, see if you can spot Donald Trump in this picture, whist Paul watches on, disguising himself as a little teapot, tall and stout.

After an odd year we managed to finally break free and get in a game of golf. Some people took it a bit far and have played nearly every day, but for those with jobs, this was the first game of 2021 in SMXIXHGS. We played at Portal Premier, and it was like the course had been reserved all year for just us to play. The order for the winner, which is basically the same as last year and the Ryder Cup table are here; COMP RESULTS, LATEST RC TABLE
With the lockdown ending (for now) we are starting the winter league again – unfortunately every other golfer has the same idea so getting tee times on the weekend is not as simple as it was.
But the first event has been arranged to kick off the winter league and the new WhatsApp chat is being introduced to allow quicker responses to event suggestions (to allow us to get tees booked). The WhatsApp chat can be seen here.
Handicaps for 2021
With the new World Handicap System being introduced, things will be changing in the new year across the whole of amateur golf worldwide. For the winter league we will be continuing to use our existing handicaps, but the committee is looking at the new system for the new year.

So
The Handicap index is what we currently call handicap (our normal one decimal number).
The Slope Rating is what the course is rated as (different for different tee colours)
The Course Handicap is what you play a match play round off
The Handicap Allowance is what fraction of your handicap you play in each competition – so for us we normally play it as 100% for either medal or stableford rounds, but the new system has the following fractions:
Individual stroke play, Stableford, par/bogey, maximum score: 95%
Fourball stroke play: 85%
Fourball Stableford: 85%
Fourball par/bogey: 90%
Individual match play: 100%
Fourball match play: 90%
Foursomes: 50% of combined team handicap
Greensomes, Pinehurst/Chapman: 60% low handicap + 40% high handicap
Best 1 of 4 stroke play: 75%
Best 2 of 4 stroke play: 85%
Best 3 of 4 stroke play: 100%
Best 4 of 4 stroke play: 100%
Scramble (4 players): 25%/20%/15%/10% from lowest to highest handicap
Scramble (2 players): 35% low/15% high
Total score of 2 match play: 100%
Best 1 of 4 par/bogey: 75%
Best 2 of 4 par/bogey: 80%
Best 3 of 4 par/bogey: 90%
4 of 4 par/bogey: 100%

Whilst the RC leader took a sabbatical in Scotland he lost top spot to Adrian for the 2nd year running. Whilst Jason won at Leasowe, Ade finished a good second to win this years Ryder Cup league. Someone needs a handicap cut !! 🙂

Sunny and windy weather, Pete Sherlock wins the day in a close battle with the President. The outgoing Captain remains steady in mid-table
Many thanks to John, the best Captain we have ever had in a Covid crisis, for hosting this years comp at Hawkstone Park. The weather was shite, but it held up better than we hoped in the afternoon. Housewives’ favourite Pete Sherlock was narrowly beaten by Grannies’ favourite Frank Buckley. Both played solid golf in tough wet conditions. See here for full results. Graham won’t need to be dropping any handicaps!!
The texas scramble was won by Jason, Ray, Ade and Frank Sherlock. See here for result
.
The Ryder Cup table is also looking closer at the top with 9,000 separating the top 4. Pete is very close to John and has played 2 less games. Does he have enough in the tank to take top spot before the Ryder Cup? See here for the table.

Price is £72 – £12 (society subsidy) = £60/player
John had a top round today and with Pete not playing has moved in to second place in the RC table. A smooth 36 points will protect his handicap nicely, so is he peaking just in time for Captain’s Day? See http://www.smxixhgs.com/?page_id=1428 for today’s results.
