Pete extended his lead at the top of the RC table with another victory at Houghwood where a late deluge dented the hopes of John, Frank and Jason. However, Adrian kept up pressure at the top and looks comfortable in 2nd place. For the full results see here, and for the RC table see here.

High Legh, where the tortoises couldn’t catch the hares
Out of the blocks quickly and never looked back. Pete took the spoils with 40 points, Jason was second with a steady 36 and Frank just dodged in to 3rd on a countback. The Ryder Cup table has changed round quite a bit since last game, and whilst Pete is still leading, Ade is now in second, and with a good performance on Captain’s Day he could even take his first ever RC crown.

Sunny West Derby and super greens
Hot and sunny and super greens at West Derby. Definitely a course to play again, and whilst not the hardest course, it proved tough enough. Ade yet again played the staring role and is making the best attempt he can to top the RC table. As Ade is in his prime this should worry the rest of the field.

Ade wins, but Ray plays his best SMXIXHGS round ever
Whilst Ade will be looking for the plaudits, the round of the day was completed by Ray Smith. His best round in the society saw his first ever handicap drop. Top of the Ryder Cup table was retained by Pete, whilst John Shearn had a change of fortune at the top as over golfing took its toll on his aged frame.

Captain’s Day results from Rhuddllan
Rhuddllan was a great course and the weather stayed fair with the wind making it harder for those that hit their drives off the ground. The texas scramble was won by Jason Moss, Pete Lyons and Paul Morissey in a nerve jangling putt off at lunch time. Frank S tried as hard as possible to find a formula that would give him the points, but failed to do so.
The medal round was a much tougher affair with Pete Lyons yet again getting his name on the trophy with a steady round. Pete Sherlock was second with John Shearn putting himself in third in a round littered with penalties and lost balls…. Jason managed to beef up his points by taking all four afternoon Nearest the Pins with Ade smashing his way to the Longest Drive.

You silly boys !
With their combined society experience of nearly 40 years, you would have expected that Jason and Ade would have been a bit wiser in the run up to Captain’s day, but “oh no!”. They knew better and went and put two excellent medal rounds together to give their handicaps a good kicking just in time for the big event. See here for the scores for the game at Northop, and here for the latest Ryder Cup table. Frank still leads but Jason has squeezed between the Sherlock brothers.
